Beginning the Homeschooling Process
- Record the PACE numbers in the upper half of appropriate spaces on the
Supervisors Progress Card or your Teachers Record Master Sheet.
- Before assigning each PACE, remove the test from the center and file
until the student is ready to take the test (also, remove the Test Keys from the center
of the Answer Keys.) and file them where only you can reach them.
- Student should read the "Objectives" and "Vocabulary" to a
parent. The parent should initial the sections after the words have been read aloud.
- Student should scan the PACE and read over the material to become familiar with the
basic content and concepts he should master as he progresses through the material.
- Student begins reading the PACE and working the activities in pencil.
Scoring Procedures
- The student should score his work when he reaches a scoring strip or before each
"Checkup". The student must ask permission to score and his supervisor
must issue the score key or allow the student to go to the scoring area where score keys
are stored.
Do not give the student ready access to score keys. All scoring should be
done with a red pen. The only mark the student makes is a red "X"
near the incorrect answer.
He then returns the score key and pen to their proper places and returns to his study area
to correct any answers he missed, using pencil.
- After correcting all wrong answers, the student returns to the score table,
where he rechecks each corrected answer. If the new answers are correct, he puts a red
circle around the red "X". Then he will return to his study area. (If any
answers are not correct, he will repeat steps 5 & 6 until all "Xs" are
corrected and circled.)
- When the student has corrected and re-scored all incorrect answers, he should be
ready to complete the "Lets Review" / "Checkup". A check-up
is a mini-test over a section of the PACE.
If mastery in a subject area has not been achieved, the Checkup will reveal any weak
areas. A student MUST NOT look back at previous pages, but should view it as a
"mini-quiz". All questions on the Checkup should be scored and mistakes
corrected before moving on.
- Steps 6 through 8 are repeated until the student reaches the "PACE
Review" / "Self Test".
At this point, he should review the PACE, concentrating on each "Lets
Review" / "Checkup" and the "Words to Know" /
"Vocabulary".
Testing
- The parent should initial the "PACE Review" / "Self
Test" before the student begins to work on it in his study area. If a student has
not completed, scored, and corrected all activities in the PACE, DO NOT initial the Self
Test. While taking the self test, the student must not look back at previous pages.
This is NOT an open book test.
- The student scores his "PACE Review" / "Self
Test". He figures his grade and enters it in red at the upper right-hand corner
of the "PACE Review" / "Self Test". He then follows steps 6 & 7 to
correct the "PACE Review" / "Self Test".
- A score of 90% or more indicates that the student is ready for the
PACE Test. A score of 80-89% indicates significant weakness in content mastery.
The student should restudy the "Words to Know" / "Vocabulary" and
"Lets Review" / "Checkup" pages. The parent should also quiz the
student over the concepts presented in the PACE until he is satisfied that the student is
ready for the PACE Test. A score of less than 80% indicates that the student should
restudy the PACE with special attention to any definite areas of weakness.
- To prepare for the PACE Test, quiz the student with questions from
the Checkups and Self Test. Look for sections where he did not understand the material.
This is the time you are needed to review any concepts or materials not understood. Have
the student write notes from important areas of the PACE.
When both the parent and student feel that the student is ready for the PACE Test, the
test is given the next morning. The student is called to the testing area and brings
only a pencil. He is given the PACE Test. He does not leave the testing area until
the test is completed.
The test should be scored immediately by the parent. If the student scores less than
80%, the parent should order another PACE of the same number and subject or
erase the booklet and reuse it. If the student scores 80% or more, he is allowed to
proceed with the next scheduled PACE. The student should be challenged again and again to
do his best, to learn the maximum, and to keep his scores well into the 90s. Praise
the student heartily for his successes.
Recording Grades
- The parent records only the PACE Test score of 80% or more on the Record Master
Sheet and/or Supervisors Progress Card. If a score of less than 80% is received, the
student will receive the average of the first non passing grade and the second passing
grade--not to exceed 90%.
- There are no Midterm or Final Exams in the PACE Curriculum.
- Record Master Sheet
- When the third PACE Test in each subject is completed and recorded, Academy members
must send the pink page from the back of the Record Master Sheet to the Academy office
along with all completed tests. Please make sure all scores are readable.
- When the sixth PACE Test in each subject is completed and recorded, Academy members
must send the green page from the back of the Record Master Sheet to the Academy office
along with all completed tests. Then begin a new Record Master Sheet for the second
semester. The white copy is for your records. Non-Academy members do not need to begin
a new Record Master Sheet at this time.
- When the ninth PACE Test in each subject is completed and recorded, Academy members
must send the pink page from the back of the new Record Master Sheet to the Academy office
along with all completed tests.
- When the twelfth PACE Test in each subject is completed, recorded, and the
signature line is signed on the Record Master Sheet, Academy members must send the pale
yellow page to the Academy office along with all completed tests.
- Once 12 packets in each subject are completed, the student has fulfilled academic
expectations for that year.
