Homeschooling Resources at Your Fingertips

Why Switch to Half-year Homeschooling?

by Jessica Parnell | Jan 09, 2018 | 2 min read

You’re frustrated. Your child struggles through homework that they don’t understand and they are only getting farther and farther behind. Perhaps, on top of everything else, your child is being bullied in school. When you’re a parent, it’s hard not to think, “This is hopeless!” It’s only halfway through the school year! The desire for change strengthens in your heart. No parent wants to see their child grasp only a fraction of what is taught to them. Can you and your child really go on like this?
The answer is, “No.”

Half-year homeschooling with an accredited partner is a wonderful option for parents who feel their child is not reaching their full potential. It’s definitely a scary option for some who may have never homeschooled their child in their life. But oh, how the benefits outweigh the negatives! Switching to homeschooling half-year is a great option for you. Here’s why.

Freedom and flexibility of schedule. It never ends: the classes, the staggering amount of homework that’s not done until midnight, and the help your child needs isn’t there. Enter half-year homeschooling, where freedom reigns. You and your child can set the schedule and include interests you want to explore on a schedule that works for you. And the extracurriculars, like participating in a 4-H club or dance class, are easier to enjoy. You don’t fully get this kind of flexibility from other schools!

Recharging your child’s interests. It’s hard to juggle classes and extracurricular activities when your child is also pressured in school. With half-year homeschooling, the pressure fades away, and your child can pursue any interest they wish, only more in-depth. Are they interested in performing arts, such as music and theater? Have a future scientist or librarian? Half-year homeschooling allows your children to go after their goals and dive into what truly makes them love learning.

Increased family time. Sometimes, your family can be passing ships in the night — always going, but never together. Homeschooling will give you the space and time you need to thrive as a family unit. Yes, you’ll be with your child more, but it’s deeper than that. With you as their teacher, a grocery store trip becomes a math lesson. Hikes become fun explorations into science. Watching your child grow up is the most precious time of all, and homeschooling gives you the time and space to do just that.

If your current school situation isn’t working for you or them, don’t wait. If your child is not thriving, or if you want more support and freedom in learning, now is the time to make a change. Give your child the education they need, the learning they deserve. Your child’s potential will grow leaps and bounds with half-year homeschooling. The joy you’ll experience as you see your child reclaim their confidence and love for learning will far outweigh any fear or challenge change brings. Reclaim your child’s year today!

Jessica Parnell
Hello everyone! I’m Jessica Parnell — mom, homeschool evaluator, teacher, and CEO of Bridgeway Academy. In my 20+ years of experience as a homeschool mom and evaluator, I have had the privilege of meeting homeschoolers that take a variety of approaches to their education. It is their many stories and successes that inspire me in my own homeschooling and I love to pass on the knowledge that I have gained from them to other homeschooling families. The one constant that always remains true is that there’s no such thing as a “cookie cutter child.” Each child is fearfully and wonderfully made and as a result, learns and functions differently. It’s our job to ensure that we’re raising each child to fulfill their individual purpose and when we can teach in a way that inspires them, we are on our way to homeschool success. When I’m not writing or teaching my children, I like to ski, write and participate in triathlons. I graduated from Kutztown University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Masters in English and I am currently pursuing a degree in Neuroleadership.
