Homeschooling under Ohio’s homeschool statute.
Homeschooling under Ohio’s homeschool statute. Children may be excused from compulsory attendance in order to be home educated if parents comply with the state’s homeschool regulations.
Parents must provide an annual notification to homeschool to the local superintendent by August 30th or within five calendar days after commencing home education, moving into a new school district, or withdrawing from a public or nonpublic school. You will submit a short Notice of Intent (NOI) and exempt your child from compulsory school attendance. The superintendent is required to acknowledge receipt of the notice of intent within 14 calendar days, as a receipt.
We strongly recommend that parents maintain copies of their notification as well as proof of mailing or proof of delivery and all other correspondence with the school district. Parents must transmit a notice of intent listing (1) the parent’s name and address, (2) the child’s name, and (3) an assurance that the child will receive education in the required subject areas. That is it. No other information is required to exempt your child from compulsory school attendance. A child must receive education in the subject areas of English language arts, mathematics, science, history, government, and social studies. There are no teacher qualifications, number of hours, or assessment requirements.
