For student-athletes dreaming of competing at the college level, eligibility with the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) is non-negotiable. But how does this work for homeschoolers?
At Bridgeway Academy, we offer a unique solution: our NCAA-approved high school courses. This ensures your student can pursue their athletic dreams without compromising the flexibility and personalization that homeschooling offers. Whether they are training early mornings, traveling tournaments, or juggling multiple responsibilities, our curriculum keeps them on track both academically and athletically.
What is NCAA Accreditation?
NCAA accreditation is not a blanket approval given to a school; it’s a clearance process that ensures courses meet specific academic standards required for eligibility in college sports. Schools must submit course syllabi, assessments, and grading rubrics for approval. These materials are reviewed by the NCAA Eligibility Center to ensure the coursework aligns with core requirements in areas like English, math, science, and social studies.
At Bridgeway, we’ve gone the extra mile to make sure our high school homeschool programs meet these strict standards. We understand how vital this is for student-athletes who are investing so much time and energy into both their education and their sport. That’s why we’ve built a path that provides peace of mind for families striving to do both well.
NCAA Core Course Requirements: What You Need to Know
The NCAA doesn’t just care that students are in school. They care about what they’re learning. To be eligible to compete at a Division I or Division II school, student-athletes need to meet very specific academic benchmarks. These include completing 16 NCAA-approved core courses over the course of high school and maintaining a minimum GPA in those courses.
For Division I athletes, those 16 core courses must include four years of English, three years of math (starting at Algebra I), two years of science (with one lab if available), two years of social science, one additional year in English, math, or science, and four more in any approved subject, including world languages or comparative religion. Division II has a similar structure, but with slightly different distribution requirements, and a minimum core GPA of 2.2 instead of 2.3.
Students pursuing Division I schools also need to complete 10 of their 16 core courses by the start of their seventh semester, with at least seven of those in English, math, or science. And once that seventh semester starts, those 10 locked-in courses can’t be repeated or replaced.
At Bridgeway, we guide you through all of this. You don’t have to memorize the rules; we’ll make sure your student’s courses line up with every requirement, so they stay eligible and on track.

Why Bridgeway’s NCAA Program is a Game-Changer
As a homeschool academy, we understand how important flexibility is for student-athletes juggling training schedules, games, and travel. Our NCAA-approved courses are designed to meet these students where they are without sacrificing academic excellence.
You get the freedom of homeschooling, the structure and accreditation needed to stay NCAA eligible, and a support team who knows how to guide student-athletes through every step. This combination is powerful. It gives student-athletes the tools to thrive while still keeping pace with their peers in traditional school settings.
In fact, many of our student-athletes go on to compete in Division I and Division II sports programs. They tell us how thankful they are for the ability to customize their education without giving up their NCAA dreams.
Support for Student Athletes That Goes Beyond Academics
Success for student-athletes isn’t just built on grades and game scores; it’s built on community. At Bridgeway, we know the challenges these students face: pressure to perform, a demanding schedule, and the desire to stay connected to peers and mentors. That’s why we go beyond academics to foster connection, encouragement, and balance.
Our NCAA students are part of a wider network of learners and athletes who understand the unique rhythm of homeschooling with a competitive edge. Through virtual events, one-on-one support, and a culture that celebrates individual pace and purpose, we make sure no student feels like they’re on this journey alone.
We also provide parents with tools and resources to better support their student-athlete, from transcript guidance to college planning checklists. It’s a full-circle support system designed to equip families for every step, from freshman year to signing day.
An NCAA Program That Creates Athletic Success
Navigating the NCAA pathway requires more than just enrolling in the right courses. It takes careful planning and foresight. That’s why academic planning is a critical piece of Bridgeway’s NCAA program. From freshman year to graduation, our advisors help families map out a four-year academic plan that ensures all NCAA core course requirements are met on time.
We help students select the right mix of courses, rigorous enough to prepare them for college while also tailored to their interests and athletic goals. Our planning includes credit tracking, NCAA documentation support, and check-ins each semester to ensure students stay on track.
This proactive approach takes the guesswork out of the process. Rather than scrambling to meet requirements during their senior year, students and parents can move forward with confidence, knowing that every course is working toward eligibility.
The Student-Athlete Commitment
While we do our part to maintain NCAA approval, student-athletes and their families also have responsibilities. To remain in “cleared” status, students must follow the outlined course requirements, remain in consistent communication with Bridgeway advisors, and avoid making unauthorized changes to curriculum or course structure.
This means staying on pace, submitting assignments through our approved learning management system, and making sure all changes or questions are run through our advisory team. NCAA regulations are strict, and even well-meaning deviations can affect eligibility. We are here to help families navigate this process confidently.
If these expectations aren’t met, it can jeopardize NCAA eligibility and may even result in withdrawal from the program. That’s why ongoing communication and transparency are important.
Why Student Athletes Must Follow NCAA Regulations
College athletics can open doors to scholarships, leadership opportunities, and lifelong connections. But none of it is possible without maintaining eligibility by following the NCAA regulations. That’s why our NCAA-approved homeschool program is so powerful: it combines flexibility with the assurance that your student is on the right path.
Consider the investment your student has made in their sport. Long hours of practice. Weekend tournaments. Personal training sessions. All that effort should be matched by an academic program that honors their ambitions. With Bridgeway, they don’t have to choose between their passion and their education.
And it’s rare. Very few homeschool programs offer this opportunity. Bridgeway has made it a priority not only to meet the NCAA’s requirements, but to truly serve the families we work with. We’re proud to be a trusted partner for student-athletes who are reaching for excellence.
