At Bridgeway Academy, we consider teachers to be heroes, whether it’s you as a parent homeschooling your child or one of our amazing instructors. Every day, teachers passionately take on the responsibility of educating, supporting, shaping, inspiring, comforting, rooting on, and pushing students to be their best selves.
Teachers deserve all the recognition we can bestow upon them, and every so often we’ll be spotlighting one of our wonderful instructors in this blog. So far, we’ve spotlighted Kimberly Bennett, Courtney Markiewicz, Colin Hickey, Kate Kosh, Katrina Brown, and Rhonda Dausman. Our next subject is Michelle Glasso, a 5th grade teacher with Bridgeway Academy!
Bridgeway Academy: Can you share a little bit about your experience or background as a teacher?
Michelle Glasso: I have been teaching for over 28 years. I taught for 26 years in a private school and then I joined Bridgeway in 2020.
BA: What brought you to Bridgeway?
MG: In 2020, I decided that I wanted to teach from home. I am so grateful that I found Bridgeway Academy. It was an answer to my prayers. Bridgeway has the same core values that I do. It is a perfect fit.
BA: What makes Bridgeway special for both teachers and students?
MG: What makes Bridgeway special is the families that we work with and the entire staff. Everyone is amazing. Everyone is so nice and helpful. It is so special because we work with families all over the world and it is an adventure every day. Without leaving my home, I get to experience different places all over the world. It is a wonderful experience.
BA: Which classes do you teach for Bridgeway, and what do you enjoy most about teaching them?
MG: I teach 5th grade ELA, math, science, and social studies. I really enjoy teaching 5th grade because the students are enthusiastic about learning. I love their energy! I love the curriculum, too. The creative writing unit in ELA is one of my favorite units to teach, and I really enjoy the science curriculum as well.
BA: What favorite “moment” or memory stands out during your time with Bridgeway?
MG: I can’t pick just one favorite memory. I truly enjoy every day. I love seeing how the students bond with each other. The friendships that they have created with each other are priceless. I love to see their excitement when they are really enjoying the lesson. I really enjoy our Friday Meet-ups. One of my favorite Friday Meet-ups was when I had the students take turns teaching us something. We have some talented students!
BA: At the end of the day, what do you hope your students take from your class?
MG: At the end of the day, I hope that my students leave my class, knowing that they are loved. I hope they leave feeling confident and appreciated. I hope that they have a love for learning.
BA: Many people–teachers, advisors, students, and parents–express how it feels like they’re all part of a larger Bridgeway “family.” What do you think contributes to that sense of community?
MG: I absolutely feel like Bridgeway is a family. Everyone is so welcoming and eager to help each other. We may not see each other in person, but many of us communicate with each other daily. We all share a special bond with each other.
BA: What advice would you give to families who are considering choosing Bridgeway as their homeschool partner?
MG: I highly recommend Bridgeway Academy to families. Students get the best of both worlds. They get to be homeschooled yet they get the classroom experience, with a teacher and with students from all over the world. It is a wonderful experience. I feel so blessed that I get to be a part of this.
