I’ve Picked the Wrong Homeschool Program…Now What? Part 2: Questions to Ask Yourself

by David Engle | Dec 12, 2019 | 2 min read

Winter break is upon us, and the holidays are right around the corner. As you enjoy the break shopping and relaxing with family, it may also be a good time to reflect on the school year thus far and determine whether a switch may be beneficial for your homeschool student. We’ve already offered some helpful tips and options if you think you may have chosen the wrong homeschool program. If you’ve tried some of those approaches and are still looking to make a change, let’s work through the questions below to determine whether now would be a good time to switch things up.

Do you know how your student learns?
Why is this important? Studies show that children retain information better and are most engaged in learning when the material is presented in a way that best suits their learning style. This approach has proven to be quite beneficial to kids and parents. If you’re not sure what your child’s learning style is, take our Learning Style Assessment, which provides the foundation for your homeschooler’s education. Our free download also explains everything you need to know about learning styles. Once you’ve figured out your child’s learning style, Bridgeway will work closely with you to create the perfect curriculum.

Are you getting the support you need?
Are you getting help figuring out the right curriculum? Do you have someone to reach out to with questions or concerns whenever you need to talk? These are questions worth asking yourself. At Bridgeway, our advisors and staff are with you during every step of this journey, from choosing curriculum at the beginning to graduation at the end…and everything in between. We provide an unparalleled level of support from start to finish, so you’re never alone. Anytime you need help, Bridgeway is there for you.

Is your child getting the proper credit for his or her classes?
If you’re unsure what accreditation is or why it’s so important, let us explain. Accreditation is essentially a way to show colleges that the courses your children are taking are of the highest standards. An accredited program, like Bridgeway, demonstrates a high level of education so when it’s time to start applying for colleges (and scholarships!), you can be confident that universities will recognize and appreciate the quality of education your homeschooler is receiving. Bridgeway has accreditation through AdvancED, NCA CASI, NWAC, SACS CASI, and The National Association of Private Schools, and we review our accreditation and requirements yearly to ensure we’re constantly exceeding standards.

Choosing to homeschool is a difficult decision in itself, let alone trying to figure out which homeschool program is right for your kids. Upon reflecting during this holiday break, if you’re still thinking that you may have chosen the wrong homeschool program, it’s OK! Remember…you’re not trapped. You can switch. And Bridgeway is here to help! If you have any questions at all, please call us at (800) 863-1474. One of our homeschool experts can help you figure out the road ahead.

I have been a professional writer and editor for a quarter of a century (it pains me to admit that) and have been writing in the educational space for a number of those years. I reside in southern New Jersey with my wife, two kids, two dogs, and three cats. Never a dull moment.
